WHAT TO EAT TO GET GLOWING SKIN

You know the old saying ‘it’s what on the inside that counts’? Well, when it comes to the health of your skin, it’s what you put inside that counts. A good skincare regimen is important, but is only truly effective in conjunction with a balanced and nutritious diet. Below, I have outlined which foods to eat - and which foods to avoid - to get that lit-from-within glow.

DO eat healthy fats

Fat gets a bad rap. While you should avoid the trans and saturated fats found in foods like french fries and red meat, healthy fats, like the ones in avocados and salmon, are actually good for you. Omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids help your body build healthy cell membranes, keeping your skin plump and hydrated.

DON’T drink

Nothing wrecks your complexion faster than a night (or several nights) of heavy alcohol consumption. Drinking dries out the skin and can, over time, even cause you to develop skin conditions like rosacea. Next time you go out, swap your vodka soda for a water with lemon. It might not be as fun, but I promise, your skin will thank you. (And so will your liver!)

DO eat your veggies

If you are vitamin deficient, your skin will show it. A dull, sallow complexion and dark under-eye circles are tell-tale signs of nutritional deficiencies. To keep your skin looking healthy, make sure you get your daily dose of brightly colored vegetables, which pack the most nutrients.

DON’T eat dairy (or at least try to avoid it)

There is strong evidence that dairy consumption is the root of a variety of ailments. Recent studies suggest that consuming cow milk causes hormonal imbalances in humans, which can lead to everything from cystic acne to breast cancer. If you find yourself constantly breaking out in painful, under-the-skin bumps, specifically around your mouth and chin, dairy could be the cause. Cheese lovers, don’t fret: Thanks to the growing vegan community, there are plenty of yummy dairy-alternatives!

The truth is, a health-conscious diet benefits more than just your skin: Eating right can increase your energy, alleviate bloating, and help stabilize your mood. A healthy, clear, beautiful complexion is just a wonderful bonus!
