WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I TRIED A FASHION SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE

A company that delivers personalized fashion straight to your doorstep sounds like a dream come true, right? Well, it is...in theory. But such a brilliant concept has limitations, and that was my experience when I decided to try a fashion subscription service that provides fast fashion while catering to your personal style.

I'd heard a lot about such services from my clients, so I thought I would give it a try and see for myself what the deal was. If you're unfamiliar with this business model, it works like this: You fill out a style proflile and they send you clothing, shoes and accessories in the mail based on your responses. You get to try everything on, keep what you like and return the rest. It's genius, really. So I filled out my style profile and eagerly awaited the arrival of my first box. I will note that I was purely trying this for experimental purposes since I have a very clear idea of what my personal style is - edgy but feminine with a tendency toward 'trendy minimalism.' Unfortunately, the box I received was not a reflection of this at all.

Instead, what I got was a pair of dark skinny jeans, a red and white striped top, a black and grey mixed media top, a sleeveless floral blouse and a cream cowl neck poncho. The first three items are pictured, but the last 2 were so unflattering I couldn't even bring myself to take pictures wearing them. I did end up keeping the jeans because I needed a new pair and they fit very well but I could just have easily gone and bought these myself.

STYLE: Completely off. Surprisingly, nothing about any of these pieces was edgy or feminine, and my style is a solid combination of both. They all felt way too casual and bohemian.

SIZING: The one thing that was right was the sizing - everything fit perfectly.

QUALITY: The items were mostly polyester and quite poorly made. Sadly, after just a few wears and washes, the jeans I kept began to stretch.

PRICING: Overpriced, especially considering the poor quality and the obscurity of the brands I received.

THE VERDICT: Fail...This is definitely not a viable option for those looking for personalized styling services.

I'm curious - Have you tried a fashion subscription service? Leave a comment below!
