NYFW is when designers present their upcoming collections in a series of runway shows and presentations (if you want to know more, read THIS post about why NYFW is important). This season there were a few trends that were very prominent. Everything was darkly romantic with jewel tones, velvets, dark silks, metallics and statement furs. These are the trends that we will be seeing in stores in the fall, but get a head start by incorporating some of these looks into your wardrobe now.

HOW TO WEAR IT
There is no way to escape it, velvet is here to stay. Luckily this has been a trend for a while so it won't be too hard to incorporate it into your everyday look, if you haven't already. Wear a velvet dress with white sneakers for a casual brunch look or a jumpsuit with heels for date night. Going to work? Throw a velvet blazer over a silk shirt for a chic professional outfit.

HOW TO WEAR IT
Given the current political environment, it was really no surprise that designers decided to voice their opinions. Make your own statement with a t-shirt tucked into high waisted wide leg pants.

HOW TO WEAR IT
Metallics were all over the runways this season, but don't worry you don't have to be going to a party to wear them. Wear metallic ankle booties with a little black dress for an easy date night outfit, or keep your look casual by dressing up jeans and a t-shirt with a metallic bomber.

HOW TO WEAR IT
Think dark and mysterious when choosing your silk. A silk jumpsuit or dress is a great option for desk to dinner. Dress up the look with ankle booties or down with a clean pair of sneakers.
