Being a fashion addict makes it incredibly difficult to pack. Luckily, I have come up with a formula to make it just a little bit easier for myself. While this is not a fool-proof formula (case in point, I had two bags and a giant purse on my current trip to England), it certainly makes things a bit easier. No matter what you pack though, the most important thing to remember is to leave enough room in your suitcase for any new clothing purchases made on your trip!
The first thing I do when packing is choose my base color, brown or black, and build from there. I like to start from the bottom and work my way up so I begin with shoes, two pairs, ones suitable for walking and ones for going out at night. Next, I pack my bottoms, one pair of of jeans and one or two pairs of leggings depending on the length of my trip and access to laundry facilities. Taking into account the season, I also add tights for either under a dress or to be layered under my pants. I always add at least one dress and one cardigan with a few short or long sleeved tops and sweaters. With all of the clothing in the same color scheme I can layer the pieces to create different looks. I employ the same base color technique (silver or gold?) when choosing which accessories to bring so that, again, the pieces can be layered. The key to packing lightly is to rely on layering and accessories to create multiple looks using just a few simple pieces.
